Included here is a preliminary itinerary for travel to Asia in 2018. All schedules and information are tentative.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: 6:00 AM departure from ABQ to Bangkok, Thailand
Day 2: Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan. visit Paro Dzong, National Museum, overnight in Thimphu, dinner with Namgay and family.
Day 3: Thimphu town, Giant Buddha, Takin park and zoo, Thimphu Stupa, National Stadium archery tournament, overnight in Thimphu.
Day 4: travel to Punakha. Temple of the Divine Madman, Punakha Dzong.
Day 5: Trongsa Dzong, National Museum of the Monarchy. Overnight Yangkill Hotel.
Day 6: travel to Bumthang and Jakar. Visit to Jakar town. Overnight Home stay at Orgyen Choling Guest House….family stay.
Day 7: Travel to Mongar and Lunentse; weaving villages eastern Bhutan
Day 8: long day drive to Punakha. Rest, relax.
Day 9: Rafting the Mo Chu river
Day 10: drive to Paro; overnight in Paro.
Day 11: departure for Bangkok; overnight in Bangkok
Day 12: Bangkok to Osaka, Japan; train travel from Osaka to Kyoto, get settled in Aotake-An residence (a traditional Japanese home called a Machiya)
Day 13: train to Fushimi Inari and hike through hundreds of Torii gates. Lunch in Fushimi; return to Kyoto for a visit to the samurai palace at Nijo Castle.
Day 14: bike ride around Kyoto; visit to the Golden Temple; (Kinkaku-ji temple) sushi lunch as a small restaurant across the street. Bike to Kyoto Botanical Gardens. Ride back to the house; dinner in town.
Day 15: train trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima. This all day, late night return is worth the experience and late night….includes an early AM trip to the train station and train change in Osaka, then onto Hiroshima
